Research

The researches in the Department of Hydrogen Energy are carried out in two laboratories: laboratory of solid oxide fuel cells and laboratory of lithium batteries.
The laboratories include following equipment:

Solid oxide fuel cells laboratory

  • Synthesis of materials for SOFCs:
    • high-energy ball mill Spex SamplePrep 8000M
    • 15-ton manual hydraulic press Specac 15T
    • Venticell 250C dryer
    • vacuum dryer Heraeus Vacuum VT6000
    • tubular furnaces: maximum working temperature 1200°C; atmosphere: inert, oxidizing, reducing; gas flow controllers
    • chamber furnace: maximum working temperature 1750°C; air or inert atmosphere

  • Properties of materials for SOFCs:
    • electrical conductivity and thermoelectric power measurement system; temperature range: room temperature - 900°C; atmosphere: inert, oxidizing, reducing; gas flow controllers; oxygen partial pressure sensor
    • thermobalance Q5000IR TA Instruments with mass spectrometer Pfeiffer Vacuum ThermoStar
    • AC impedance spectroscopy measurement system with Solartron 1260 frequency response analyzer and Solartron 1296 dielectric interface; temperature range: room temperature - 900°C; atmosphere: inert, oxidizing, reducing; gas flow controllers; oxygen partial pressure sensor

  • Fuel cell assembly:
    • ceramic support for fuel cell stack assembly

  • Fuel cell testing:
    • tubular furnace up to 1000°C
    • gas system enabling fuelling the cell with different fuels
    • Solartron 1287A electrochemical analyzer with Solartron 1252A frequency response analyzer and Solartron 1290 power booster


Lithium batteries laboratory
  • Synthesis of materials for Li-batteries:

  • Transport properties of materials for Li-batteries:
    • electrical conductivity measurement system for temperatures in the range from -196°C to 50°C
    • thermoelectric power measurement system for temperaturesin in the range from -196°C to 50°C

  • Li-batteries assembly:
    • MBRAUN Unilab glovebox with argon atmosphere and controlled water and oxygen partial pressures
    • Teflon supports for cell assembly and testing

  • Li-batteries testing:
    • Solartron 1287A electrochemical analyzer with Solartron 1252A frequency response analyzer
    • 32-channel galvanostat Kest 32K
    • potentiostat/galvanostat Autolab PGSTAT302N with frequency response analyzer module
